Oxford Educators Part of Award-Winning LEARN Science Initiative

Camille White, Communications Specialist

Oxford, Mississippi — Two Oxford School District educators are part of a team recently recognized with the University of Mississippi’s Excellence in Community Involvement Award.

Della Davidson Elementary School librarian Amanda Bennett, Bramlett Elementary School computer science teacher Kerri Greene, and Della Davidson Elementary School ELA interventionist Kerri Case are members of the LEARN Science Initiative—Library Efforts to Advance Reading and Nutrition Science.

Through the LEARN Science program, kindergarten through second-grade students explore science, nutrition, and reading through hands-on lessons in Mississippi public libraries. As part of the team, Mrs. Bennett curated a list of applicable books for the project, Mrs. Greene develops science lesson plans, and Mrs. Case supports English language arts components.

Mrs. Greene also had the opportunity to recently speak at the National Science Teaching Association conference on the development of their curriculum.

The Oxford School District is proud of Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Case for their contributions to this award-winning work.
